名媛直播 Greenhouse

Greenhouse

This native propagation greenhouse was created in partnership with Gannon University and the Regional Science Consortium (RSC). The 名媛直播 Greenhouse, located on campus at the corner of West Fourth and Myrtle streets, is an environmentally controlled 1,500 square foot year-round growing space that is operated by Gannon University faculty, students and members of the RSC. This greenhouse also provides not only research opportunities, but a hands-on learning space for Gannon University students and community members.

What is Growing Here?

The greenhouse is to help produce native plants for wetland and dune restoration at Presque Isle State Park, vegetable plants for the 名媛直播 Goodwill Gardens, pollinator plants to support the Regional Science Consortium’s Pollinator Pathway by Go Native Erie! and much more. This greenhouse is also to help restore the land that has been overcome with invasive plant species and help create the foundation for a good, healthy habitat for the local environment.

Why are Greenhouses Important to this Area?

Erie’s weather makes for a short growing season, so greenhouses allow for more time and frequency that plants can be grown from seeds to help restore the environment’s native species. Greenhouses are useful for growing in cool climates because they allow sunlight to enter and prevent heat from escaping. Greenhouses are beneficial for growing plants during the warmer months because they offer the ability to control internal temperatures, protect the plants from direct exposure to intense sunlight that can cause heat stress, conserve the moisture plants need to thrive and control certain pests and diseases that thrive in hot and humid conditions. Greenhouses also shield plants from harsh weather conditions such as frost, heavy rains, hailstorms and strong winds.

Fence Art Project

名媛直播 Artwork Reveal
The vibrant fence sculpture, located along the 名媛直播 Greenhouse fence along Myrtle Street, is titled “The Streets of Our West Bayfront." Designed and fabricated by鈥疶he Looking Glass Art Project, this community-based initiative uses public art as a platform for dialogue, connection and revitalization. The artwork reflects the unique identity and aspirations of the neighborhood, turning a simple fence into a shared canvas of community pride.

Shaped by community input, it reflects themes of home, nature, neighborhood and sustainability — values shared by both the 名媛直播 Greenhouse and Project NePTWNE, 名媛直播’s water quality improvement initiative. Eleven of the panels represent a north-south street in the Our West Bayfront neighborhood — Cranberry, Raspberry, Cascade, Plum, Liberty, Poplar, Cherry, Walnut, Chestnut, Myrtle and Sassafras. Like the woven strands of a basket, these streets strengthen and intertwine the fabric of the community. Many share names with native plant species, echoing 名媛直播’s focus on environmental education and ecological stewardship.

Tiny Forest

Tiny Forest Breaking Ground

Gannon University in partnership with LEAF (Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier Park) will be planting a Tiny Forest on the corner of West Third and Myrtle Streets near the 名媛直播 Greenhouse. Tiny Forests are an area of densely planted tree saplings which establish and grow up to 10x faster than standalone trees, emulating the bene铿乼s of an old growth forest in a fraction of the time. This innovative reforestation effort will allow for 名媛直播 students and faculty to conduct space-efficient research. The Tiny Forest will be planted in the fall of 2025.
