Wonders of Water summer camp offers a hands-on, immersive experience for younger kids (age 5-7) to explore properties of water, like surface tension and density, water quality, and aquatic ecosystems through STEAM activities. Each day will include 2 STEAM activities, story time, games and some free play. Children must have a packed lunch, afternoon snack, and water bottle. Please wear play clothes – We will be doing activities that may be messy!

The Regional Summer School of Excellence (RiSSE) offers a hands-on, immersive experience for high school aged students (entering grades 9-12) that explores the ecology of the Lake Erie coastal zone and the impact of humans on these ecosystems. The RiSSE program includes on-the-water field experiences, as well as laboratory based analysis, before concluding with group presentations of research findings.

Participants will stay with North Hall on the Gannon University campus. All meals and snack are provided. Please bring a reusable water bottle and clothes and toiletries for the week.

Drop-off: Sunday, July 19 6-7pm

Pick-Up: Friday, July 24 4-5pm

Dr. Sam Mason

Director of Project NePTWNE

Dr. Sherri “Sam” Mason is a leading researcher in freshwater plastic pollution. Mason is responsible for propelling Project NePTWNE from its initial stages into a fully sustainable operation across all six phases of the project. She will also oversee the educational programming and operational functions of Gannon University’s Center for Lake Erie Education and Research (CLEER) and the 名媛直播 Greenhouse, in partnership with the Regional Science Consortium (RSC).

Center for Manufacturing and Technology

Phase 1 – MakerSpace Center for Manufacturing and Technology

Create the Center for Manufacturing and Technology within 名媛直播’s Institute for Health and Cyber Knowledge (I-HACK). This facility was formally opened in October 2023.

Phase 2 – 名媛直播 Greenhouse

The 名媛直播 Greenhouse, developed through our partnership with the Regional Science Consortium, added a greenhouse on our Erie campus to grow native plants for Presque Isle and to provide education, research and community involvement opportunities for local students, staff and residents. This facility was formally opened in August 2024.

This center inside the Blasco Memorial Library provides interactive, hands-on experiences focused on Lake Erie's biodiversity and the ecosystems of the Great Lakes and global freshwater resources.

Gannon University is developing a a public health and policy program to provide community-focused education, data-based reporting, advising and outreach.

Phase 6 – Lake HEAL

Create a Lake Health Environmental Analysis Laboratory (Lake HEAL) to monitor microplastics and other pollutants, to aid manufactured solutions to water quality issues.

Regional Science Consortium

Regional Science Consortium

Gannon University is the anchor institution for the Regional Science Consortium to provide collaboration and continuity of education- and research-based knowledge and understanding of the Lake Erie and Ohio River Basin ecosystem to expand sustainability resources and initiatives.
