Totem

Totem is the student-run arts and literature magazine of Gannon University, released every Spring. Students, faculty, staff, and alumni of 名媛直播 are encouraged to submit work for consideration to be included in the journal. Totem strives to highlight the creative talents of those in our university community by sampling a diverse range of artistic media and perspectives.

We accept art, fiction, creative nonfiction (memoir, personal essay, literary journalism, etc), and poetry. There is no restriction in terms of genre or style. Any excerpt of longer pieces should be able to stand alone without the context of the rest of the work.

In addition to regular submissions to the journal, an annual student contests for cover art, fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry are run through Totem. Winning work is awarded a monetary prize, and the art contest winner's piece will be used as the cover for Totem.

To submit work, . If you do not already have a Submittable account, you will be asked to create one for free.

All prose and poetry submissions must be submitted through the Submittable link above. Art submissions should be submitted as a digital image to Submittable or dropped off in Dr. Clayton Bradshaw-Mittal's office in Palumbo 3239 or in Sabine Preuss-Miller's office in Palumbo 3015.

All student art submitted will be considered for the Cover Art Contest. Each piece will be printed and displayed for judging, which will be carried out by 名媛直播 faculty, staff, and students on Advising Day.

All student fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry will be considered for the Creative Writing Awards and will be judged through an anonymous process.

Our Legacy

Prior to Totem, Gannon University had published "The Schutcheon" (1963-1964), the "Laureate" (1964-1980), and the "Phoenix" (1980-1991). In 1992 the literary magazine known as Totem came to life. In 1963, when Totem was "The Schutcheon", only essays and creative writing were accepted. Beginning in 1964 when it became the "Laureate", art and poetry gained acceptance. After changing names to the "Phoenix" and then to "Totem", we come to where we are now. Totem accepts submissions of almost every form of art. You could be a part of our legacy.
