A space dedicated to exploring and learning about Lake Erie and the Great Lakes is also becoming a place where the Erie community can share its stories, creativity and ideas.

Gannon University’s Center for Lake Erie Education and Research (CLEER), through Project NePTWNE, welcomed the on Saturday, Sept. 12, for a reception celebrating the America 250 Art House & CLEER Art Show. The reception took place at CLEER, located inside the Blasco Memorial Library.

The artwork, created through the Neighborhood Art House’s America 250 initiative, will be displayed on CLEER’s Community Art Wall in the center’s NOAA Science On a Sphere® room. This display was made possible thanks to the Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority (ECGRA) America 250 funding.

While the exhibit celebrates the work of Neighborhood Art House artists, the partnership represents something larger for CLEER: its growing role as a community asset and gathering place for Erie.

CLEER provides a unique public space where education, environmental science, community engagement and creativity can intersect. Through partnerships with community organizations, schools and other local groups, CLEER offers organizations an opportunity to connect with new audiences and bring their work into a space designed for exploration and discovery.

“The Community Art Wall is one example of how CLEER can serve as a space for the entire Erie community,” said Sherri Mason, Ph.D., director of Project NePTWNE. “We want CLEER to be more than a place where people come to learn about Lake Erie. We want it to be a place where people see themselves, share their work, build connections and discover something new. Partnerships like this one with the Neighborhood Art House are exactly what we envisioned when we created CLEER.”

The Neighborhood Art House’s America 250 initiative gives artists an opportunity to reflect on America’s 250th anniversary through creative expression. Displaying the work at CLEER brings those perspectives into a public space visited by families, students, educators, community members and visitors to the Blasco Memorial Library.

The America 250 display on the Community Art Wall will remain on display following the reception through, giving visitors additional opportunities to experience the artwork during their visits to CLEER.
