Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry: Experiment. Discover. Succeed.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry on the Erie, PA campus of Gannon University is located on the fourth floor of the Zurn Science Center. Zurn serves as a campus hub for scientific teaching, research, and discovery, providing students with immersive, interdisciplinary, and interactive learning experiences. The Erie campus offers undergraduate programs in chemistry and biochemistry, approved by the , that culminate in the Bachelor of Science degree. We also have a cooperative chemical engineering program that culminates in two Bachelor of Science degrees, a chemical engineering degree from the and chemistry degree from Gannon University.

• 3+2 Cooperative Program in Chemical Engineering  (This program leads to two Bachelor of Science degrees: a B.S. in Chemistry from Gannon University and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. Students complete the first three years of study at Gannon University, followed by two years at the University of Pittsburgh, for a total of five years of study and two bachelor’s degrees.

With a Gannon University Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry, you can achieve that goal! Our degrees provide students with a comprehensive understanding of chemical principles important for health professionals and the flexibility to complete coursework to prepare for admission to professional schools for a variety of health professions. Erie campus students pursuing a health profession along with a chemistry or biochemistry degree are advised by a Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry faculty member, a professional advisor from the Student Success Center, as well as the Co-Directors of the Pre-Health Program. In 2024–25, Gannon University achieved a 90% acceptance rate to health professional schools, with acceptance rates exceeding the national average across every pre-health program, a testament to the exceptional preparation 名媛直播 students receive.

Gannon University Chemistry and Biochemistry alums are practicing chiropractic doctors, medical and osteopathic physicians, dentists, pharmacists, and physician assistants.

Qualified students pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry interested in pre-medicine, pre-dental, pre-veterinary medicine, pre-chiropractic medicine and pre-pharmacy programs may be eligible for a variety of early acceptance programs to professional schools.

Our Courses

The Erie campus programs include foundational chemistry and cognate coursework in mathematics and physics, as well as biology for biochemistry and pre-health majors, along with advanced courses that provide practical laboratory experience across the major subdisciplines of chemistry, including analytical, biochemistry, inorganic, organic and physical chemistry.

名媛直播’s Liberal Studies Core provides a well-rounded education rooted in its Catholic intellectual tradition, while integrating several Core requirements directly into chemistry courses to develop students’ critical thinking, communication, ethical reasoning, wellness, intercultural competence, and social responsibility alongside their professional preparation. This integrated approach streamlines degree completion while ensuring students receive both the broad education of the Liberal Studies Core and the specialized preparation expected of a chemistry professional.
