Clinical Requirements

The Gannon University PA Program is Affiliated with over 200 Clinical Rotation Sites

Required clinical rotation types for all students include internal medicine, pediatrics, women's health, family medicine, surgery, emergency medicine, psychiatry/behavioral medicine, and one elective.  Students will also complete one non-clinical rotation focused on creation and implementation of a community health promotion and disease prevention project. Students are never required to provide or solicit clinical sites or preceptors.

Each site will have their own mandatory requirements that each student will be required to fulfill prior to being accepted by the clinical site. Below is a list of common requirements, however it is not inclusive of all requirements for all clinical sites.

Students must complete the required clearances, health screens and annual mandatory education prior to starting any clinical experience.

Required Paperwork

Students must provide the following items in their entirety to clinical sites upon request: 

  • Act 33, 34 and 73 clearances (Criminal, Child Abuse and FBI Background Checks -must  be obtained every year)
  • Health exam (must be done yearly)
  • Proof of Health and Accident Insurance
  • Tuberculosis screening: Tuberculin skin test (Initial 2 step; followed by one step yearly. Some sites require more frequent testing) OR Quantiferon Gold blood test
  • Urine drug test 10 panel (each site may have specific requirements)
  • Proof of Negative Hepatitis-C antibody (as required by specific clinical site)
  • Proof of Immunizations including:
    • Hepatitis B immunizations and Positive Titer
    • MMR #1 and #2
    • Rubella Positive Titer
    • Mumps Positive Titer
    • Measles Positive Titer
    • Varicella Vaccines #1 and #2
    • Varicella Zoster IgG -VZV Positive Titer
    • Tdap (Tetanus)
    • Influenza annually

Students who are unable to meet clinical site requirements will not be able to complete the required course of study for graduation from the Physician Assistant Program.     

Students in the PA Program must be of sufficient health and be able to obtain all required clearances (criminal, child abuse and FBI Background checks annually) to meet the criteria of the program and our clinical affiliates. The PA Department reserves the right to reassess the student's ability to meet the program requirements and technical standards at any time during the duration of their training and to act accordingly.
