At the Dahlkemper School of Business, we recognize that today's business education spans well beyond the classroom. We are committed to preparing our graduates with appropriate levels of theoretical knowledge and arming them to deliver practical insights using the skills demanded by employers. We couple our classroom learning with immersive experiential learning opportunities, career readiness preparation for all business students, and the opportunity to build your resume with industry-recognized credentials. Below is a snapshot of what we offer to help you advance your education and become a more marketable graduate.
You don't have to wait until you graduate to get certified as a Six Sigma Yellow Belt. This certification (CSSYB) arms you with a foundational understanding of all phases of the DMAIC (define, measure, analyze, improve and control) model at the core of the Six Sigma framework. You'll demonstrate to employers your proven commitment to improving business quality through compliance with quality standards. In MGMT 350/Quality Management, all students will have the opportunity to earn this credential by taking the exam.
To demonstrate the School of Business’ commitment to providing students opportunities to enhance and supplement their classroom learning while also building discipline specific skillsets and a professional network, DSB in partnership with CED, will launch its Professional Academy series in Fall 2024.
Students will be invited to apply for a limited spot in a series of three workshops, led by an industry partner, who will deliver content that can include an industry worldview, tips on navigating the workplace of today and the future, job shadowing or site visit opportunities, a look at industry/discipline trends, and more. Students will enhance their resumes and build both a professional skillset and network by participating in this co-curricular opportunity. Since our industry partners are looking to build a talent pipeline for future internships and full-time employment opportunities, we employ a competitive process for the limited seats per Academy.
We endorse the National Association of Colleges and Employers' (NACE) career-readiness competencies, and through our partnership with 名媛直播's Career Exploration and Development (CED) Office, students work through strengthening the competencies that form the foundation for a successful career – so you can be "career-ready" upon graduation!
All undergraduate students in DSB participate in a Career Preparation Series embedded into the Business Core curriculum. From your first business course (BCOR 105) you’ll start connecting what you’re learning in the classroom to your post-graduation professional lives. Upon completion of the series, you will be equipped to articulate your exploration and development of who you are and who you want to be as a career-ready professional.
Our focus on career-prep series also includes an annual Business Professional Development Day each spring – we connect you to employers who share their insights on contemporary issues in the workplace like professionalism, communication, and being a leader – plus what they “look for” when hiring business school graduates. The day continues with a networking lunch and professional headshot opportunities!
Students in our Finance major compete annually in the Collegiate Financial Plan Competition sponsored by the CFA Society of Pittsburgh, against students from as many as 25 Universities. In 2024, 名媛直播 student Sarah White earned 1st place in this competition. Monetary prizes are awarded to the Top Ten financial plans.
Students Benjamin Querling, Natalee Stinebiser, and Sterre Van de Goor secured the Region 2 top-spot for their submission in the ACBSP “School of Entrepreneurial Thought” Competition. This earned them an all-expenses paid trip to Miami, Florida to compete for the grand prize. Only 4 total teams worldwide made the cut to the finals.
In partnership with X-Culture, our business students have the opportunity to be part of a global virtual business consulting team. You and your teammates from around the globe will work together to solve an international business challenge. Teams present their challenge solutions and upon completion of the course receive a Global Collaboration Experience Certificate. Students can use this certificate on their resume, to land a job interview, promotion or even enter a graduate program in international business. A certificate like this in today's global workplace is invaluable.
