Since its inception in 2018, Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival has become the largest performing arts festival in the world. The festival, which lasts 25 days, features hundreds of shows from groups of all levels and experience. As a part of the 名媛直播: Inspired Faculty-led Travel program, the students in the Schuster Theatre program are preparing for a two-week trip to Edinburgh Scotland.
Jack Slaugenhoupt, a sophomore studying criminal justice and psychology is heading to the festival along with a cast of other students. The group is set to perform How We Take Our Coffee, a play written by Jordan Wolfe, assistant teaching professor and artistic director of 名媛直播’s Schuster Theater, in collaboration with Angela Howell and Karalyn Headley.
The play follows a fictional retelling of local Erie history, with Slaugenhoupt playing the role of Romolo Stefanelli. The play is set in a historic version of Romolo’s Cafe and sees characters including Charlotte Battles, Barbara Fuesseder, Sarah Reed and a young reporter looking for her next story.
Although he is not a theatre major, Slaugenhoupt shared his interest in the program saying “Theatre is a hobby of mine, but I don’t see myself pursuing it after I graduate. It’s a fun thing for me to do and it helps me get out of my own head.”
The group left for Edinburgh on July 30 and will perform How We Take Our Coffee on August 2, 3, 5 and 7.
